Rehabilitation of the Kairakkum Hydro Power Plant (HPP)
As part of a major rehabilitation project, Cobra and TGEM have reached the final stages of modernizing the Kairakkum HPP. This project involves replacing six turbines and generators, along with upgrading some auxiliary systems. The result of these efforts will be a significant increase in the total installed capacity of the facility, reaching 174 MW.
At this time, three of the six hydroelectric units, each with a capacity of 29 MW, have already been successfully replaced. This is a significant step towards upgrading and enhancing the efficiency of the station. Additionally, the following tasks have been completed within the framework of this project: Construction of a 110 kV Air isolated Switchyard; Construction of 110 kV Gas Isolated Switchyard; Restoration of embankment and concrete dams to ensure the stability and safety of the hydroelectric infrastructure; Replacement of six step-up transformers, which will contribute to a more efficient distribution of electricity generated. To date, more than 60% of the work has been completed. The completed works will not only increase the capacity of the Kayrakkum HPP , but also ensure higher reliability and efficiency of the plant, contributing to sustainable development of the region and meeting the population's need for electricity. The rehabilitation of the Kayrakkum HPP is a significant step towards modernization of the energy infrastructure in the region, supporting green energy initiatives.
