Tajikistan Launches Its First Large-Scale 500 MW Solar Power Project
The Republic of Tajikistan has officially launched the implementation of its first large-scale solar energy project with a total installed capacity of 500 MW, marking a significant milestone in the development of modern energy infrastructure and renewable energy generation in the country.
Within the framework of a Government Resolution, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan signed an Investment Agreement with Ayon Energy LLC, providing for the design, construction, and commissioning of two photovoltaic power plants:
- A 250 MW photovoltaic power plant in the Asht district of Sughd Region;
- A 250 MW photovoltaic power plant in the Jayhun district of Khatlon Region.
This initiative represents the first deployment of utility-scale solar generation of this magnitude in Tajikistan and reflects the country’s strategic commitment to diversifying its energy mix through renewable and alternative energy sources.
The project is being implemented in line with the instructions outlined by the President of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Address to the Majlisi Oli, as well as within the framework of national programs aimed at promoting green energy and strengthening energy sustainability.
The commissioning of the solar power plants is expected to reduce seasonal electricity shortages, particularly during the autumn and winter periods, alleviate pressure on the national power system, and ensure more reliable electricity supply for the population and the national economy.
According to the terms of the Investment Agreement, the investor undertakes to complete the design, construction, and commissioning of the facilities by the end of 2026.
The project establishes a solid foundation for enhancing Tajikistan’s energy security and advancing environmentally responsible power generation.
