Launch of the Water Purification Basin in Mir Said Ali Hamadoni District

On September 5, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon, inaugurated a new water purification basin in the Mir Said Ali Hamadoni district.

The project aims to improve irrigation management and enhance the well-being of residents in the Farhor, Mir Said Ali Hamadoni, and Vose districts, located in the Panj River basin. The project was initiated in July 2020 as part of the "Water Resources Management in the Panj River Basin" program, supported by the Government of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank.

The Panj River, known as one of the most silt-laden rivers in the region, causes significant annual damage to irrigation canals, including the Chubek Canal. As part of the project, a water purification basin and reservoir were constructed, bank protection works were carried out, a pumping station was reconstructed, a 12-kilometer power transmission line was laid, two road bridges were built, and transformers were installed. The project was executed by OJSC "TGEM," with over 400 engineers and specialists involved. Construction began on October 1, 2020, and was completed on March 30, 2023. As a result, 50,160 hectares of irrigated land are now protected, which holds significant economic and social importance for the region, where agriculture is the main source of employment.
