Sebzor HPP was the first in the world to receive a certificate of the Sustainable Development Standard
The Sebzor HPP project, which is being built by TGEM, was announced as the first project in the world certified in accordance with the Sustainable Development Standard
TGEM buildsefficiently and reliably.
TGEM actively implements projects for the construction of infrastructure facilities, including hydraulic structures. The high quality of the work of the company's specialists allows these facilities to achieve high results.
The Sebzor HPP, which is being built by TGEM on the territory of the Roshtkalinsky GBAO, was the first in the world to receive a certificate of the Standard for Sustainable Development of hydropower.
The Hydropower Sustainability Standard is an independent certification scheme for the sustainable development of the hydropower sector that accredits hydropower projects that meet and exceed best practices on a wide range of sustainable development issues. At the same time, it should be emphasized that certificates issued in accordance with the Standard for Sustainable Development of Hydropower reflect indicators of sustainable development of individual hydropower projects at a certain stage of development and/or operation. The certification of the Hydropower Sustainability Standard is an acknowledgement that a particular project meets the strict ESG criteria set out in the Hydropower Sustainability Standard and does not constitute an endorsement or representation of the company owning the hydropower project.
Currently, TGEM specialists are working in the main building of the hydroelectric power plant, in the area of the dam, the building of the hydroelectric power plant and the main bridge. Sebzor HPP is a project of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, implemented with financial and technical support from the European Union and the Government of Germany through the German Bank, KfW, the United States Agency for International Development, the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs, and the World Bank.
The world's first
Ashok Khosla, Chairman of the Hydropower Sustainability Management Board and an expert on sustainable development, highlighted this success of Pamir Energy: "The company's commitment to implementing best practices for sustainable developmen thas paid off. We look forward to Pamir Energy's continued leadership in the field of sustainable hydropower development, as this company works to apply sustainable hydropower standards in all its operations," Khosla said.
"We are proud to be a leader in the sustainable development of hydropower in Tajikistan and beyond," said Amrikhon Raimov, CEO of Pamir Energy: Sebzor is just the beginning of our journey to provide clean, reliable and affordable energy, protect the environment and support the society we serve."
The Sebzor HHP received the first ever gold certification according to the standard of sustainable development of hydropower.
The Sebzor HPP construction project in Tajikistan has earned recognition and received gold certification for meeting the requirements of theStandard for Sustainable Development of Hydropower. This achievement makes Sebzor HPP the first project in the world certified in accordance with the International Standard for Sustainable Development of Hydropower, which was introduced in March 2023. Daler Juma, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan, stressed the importance of achieving the Sebzor project, emphasizing the Government's commitment to implementing sustainable developmentin hydropower. The International Standard for Sustainable Hydropower Development is an internationally recognized benchmark for evaluating and certifying hydropower projects according to a range of environmental, socialand governance criteria (ESG). Projects that comply with the standard commit to follow the San Jose Declaration on Sustainable Hydropower, emphasizing that "sustainable hydropower" is the only acceptable way forward. Inaddition to providing recognition, the standard facilitates access to finance by aligning with sustainable development systems of organizations such as the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Climate BondInitiative and renewable energy loans.
Sebzor is a good example of cooperation.
The evaluation of the Sebzor hydropower project in Tajikistan was made possible thanks to the support of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and its ESG Hydropower Assessment Fund (HESG). Sebzor was one of the first recipients of this fund, which aims topromote the sustainable development of hydropower by supporting the assessment of environmental, social and managerial risks and opportunities.
Daniel Menebhi, SECO's Program manager, statedthat "Sebzor is a good example of collaboration with the HESG Foundation. We want to make sustainability assessments available to hydropower projects and help identify their gaps and work to address them. It should also help developers gain access to financing, including through green bonds. SECO supports the hydropower sustainability standard, as the application of thestandard increases the sustainability of investments in this area."
Joao Costa, Head of the Sustainable Development Department of the International HydropowerAssociation, commented: "We are very pleased to celebrate the achievement of Sebzor as the world's first project certified according to the Sustainable Hydropower Development Standard. There are currently more than 30 projects under evaluation, and we look forward to recognizing them in the coming years."
This was celebrated for the first time in the world at an event jointly organized by theInternational Hydropower Association, ITAIPU Binacional, the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, the Aga Khan Foundation and the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan. The event was dedicated to exploring the interrelationships between water, energy and the environment and how they can benefit the water, agricultural and environmental sectors, with anemphasis on cooperation between countries.
The Sebzor Hydropower Project previously used the Environmental, Social and Governance Aspects of Hydropower (HESG) Tool, which informed gaps to help improve the overall sustainability of the project.
