President of the Republic of Tajikistan Reviews Construction Progress at the Rogun Hydropower Plant

On 20 August, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, paid a working visit to the city of Rogun to review the progress of construction at the Rogun Hydropower Plant, the country’s largest energy infrastructure project.

During the visit, the Head of State inspected a number of key construction sites, including the dam, Transport Tunnel No. 39, the main water intake, the shafts of the main and maintenance gates of the permanent water intake, the stilling basin of the right-bank spillway tunnels, as well as the complex of structures associated with Construction Tunnel ST-4.

Particular attention was paid to the construction of the Rogun HPP dam. Upon completion of all works envisaged by the project, the dam will reach a height of 335 metres, making it the tallest rockfill dam in the world.

An important part of the working visit was the inspection of the ST-4 facilities on the right bank of the Rogun HPP, where TGEM is carrying out a significant scope of construction and installation works.

Construction Tunnel ST-4 is designed to divert the waters of the Vakhsh River during the construction of the dam and the main facilities of the hydropower plant. The tunnel has a maximum discharge capacity of 3,500 cubic metres of water per second. The hydromechanical equipment of the complex is designed to operate under water pressure of approximately 150 metres.

The complex includes four radial operating gates designed to regulate water flow. An integrated power supply system has also been established for the equipment, with automatic switching to a backup power source in the event of an interruption to the main power supply.

While reviewing the completed works, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan noted the scale and complexity of the underground hydraulic structures and emphasised the importance of ensuring high-quality construction and the timely completion of all planned works.

As part of the working visit, the Head of State also inspected a new dormitory built by TGEM for the company’s specialists and employees engaged in the construction of the Rogun HPP.

The new dormitory comprises 84 rooms and has been constructed to provide modern and comfortable living and recreational conditions for employees. The premises are equipped with the necessary facilities, while video surveillance systems and appropriate safety measures have been implemented throughout the site.

The dormitory’s location in close proximity to the construction sites reduces employee travel time and provides more convenient conditions for the efficient organisation of work.

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan was also presented with TGEM’s plans for the further development of its infrastructure at the Rogun HPP site, including the construction of additional buildings, a canteen and other auxiliary facilities.

The Head of State called on engineers, specialists and construction workers to make effective use of the conditions provided, while paying particular attention to the quality of works and compliance with established construction schedules.

The Rogun Hydropower Plant is one of the largest infrastructure and energy projects in modern Tajikistan. TGEM’s participation in the project encompasses complex construction, electrical installation and hydromechanical works at strategically important facilities of the hydropower plant.

TGEM continues its work at the Rogun HPP, combining decades of engineering experience, modern technologies and the professional expertise of its specialists to contribute to the implementation of one of the most ambitious projects in the history of Tajikistan’s energy sector.
