Official Launch of the Country’s Largest Solar Power Plant

On September 21, 2026, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, during a working visit to the Sughd Region, visited Asht District and commissioned a 250 MW solar power plant in the town of Shaydon.

The Asht Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant has become one of Tajikistan’s largest renewable energy projects. Construction began in November 2025 at the initiative of AYON ENERGY. The facility is located on an area of 793 hectares.

As part of the project, the necessary energy infrastructure was developed within a short period to connect the new generation capacity to the country’s unified power system. In particular, a 9.8 km double-circuit 220 kV overhead transmission line was constructed from the power plant to the Asht 220/110/6 kV substation.

A total of 36 transmission towers were installed along the route. More than 500 Tajik and Chinese specialists were involved in the construction and installation works, including specialists from OJSC TGEM.

The commissioning of the Asht Solar Power Plant has significantly increased the energy potential of the Sughd Region. Electricity generation in the region has increased by 61 percent, while the new plant is capable of supplying approximately 40 percent of the region’s electricity demand.

The project will also help reduce electricity transmission losses, as a significant share of electricity supplied to the Sughd Region previously had to be transmitted over long distances from the southern part of the country.

The project is important not only from an energy perspective, but also economically and socially. Its implementation contributes to the development of modern infrastructure, the introduction of new technologies, professional training, and job creation. Following the commissioning of the power plant, 40 local specialists received permanent employment.

The development of solar energy is one of the priority areas for strengthening Tajikistan’s energy potential. During the visit, the Head of State instructed that additional photovoltaic power plants with a total capacity of 700 MW be constructed and commissioned in the Sughd Region by 2027, and that the deployment of energy storage systems with a capacity of at least 200 MWh be accelerated.

The commissioning of the Asht Solar Power Plant marks a new stage in the development of renewable energy in Tajikistan and strengthens the energy infrastructure of the Sughd Region.
