Commissioning of the 2 substations in Dushanbe by JICA

Representatives of the media got acquainted with the construction work at two electrical substations sites -"Radiostanciya" and "Promishlennaya", located in Ismoili Somoni and Sino districts. The substations shall be energized in November this year. About $20 million was allocated for their construction by a Japanese donor on a Grant basis.

Two transformers of the well-known Japanese company TOSHIBA are installed at both substations. Substation "Radiostanciya" is able to provide electricity to about 30% of the population of Ismoili Somoni district, where the largest number of multi-store residential buildings are located, and "Promishlennaya" has capability to provide electricity to 58% of the population of the largest Sino district in Dushanbe –where are many industrial objects are located.

According to the authorized representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA) in Tajikistan, Mr. Tanabe Hideki, the construction of substations is implemented in accordance with the grant agreement signed for the project “Substation Improvements in Dushanbe” on June 30, 2017 between the Republic of Tajikistan and JICA in an amount of app. $20 million.

This project has been implemented by OJSC "Barqi  Tojik" and the Japanese company"Nishizawa" under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan over the period of 2 years.

Leading Japanese engineers are continuously working on the construction of substations, managing the entire process and comprise less than 10% of the workforce at site.TGEM employees comprise about  90% of the company workforce with many completed a short-term internships in Japan.

As Japanese engineers noted, the substations are built according to Japanese quality standards and most of the substation equipment were brought specially from Japan, the other part from other countries, so that spare parts could beeasily found in Tajikistan if necessary.

Substations service life is 30 years. In case of any substation accidents or serioustechnical deviations, safety measures are provided - that is, the transformers automatically shuts down and are safe of any damage.

Mr.Hideki Tanabe discovered another positive Japanese standard substation operation trend:

–Transformers are designed to efficiently distribute electricity as in Japan. Wehave 100 V of electricity supply to each apartment, so failures are rare. In Tajikistan, this figure is 220 volts, almost one and a half times more and canlead to frequent failures. And, in order to have electricity in every house, adistribution of 100 volts is enough, what is also expected from our substations.

Substation"Radiostanciya" is located next to the "Amphitheater", "Promishlennaya" – close to the "Farovon" market.
